Health department authorities suspect that a bat-infested commercial godown is the primary source of the newly detected Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode. The 43-year-old patient, a resident of Ramanattukara near Farook, reportedly developed a severe fever shortly after personally clearing and cleaning the rented warehouse. A subsequent inspection of the site revealed a heavy presence of fruit bats along with significant accumulations of bat excreta, raising strong suspicions that the virus was transmitted through local air particles. The health status of the individual remains critical after he developed severe encephalitis-like symptoms, forcing medical teams to transfer him from a private facility to the intensive isolation ward at the Government Medical College. Because the patient visited outpatient departments and underwent diagnostic scans at private hospitals in Feroke and Mankavu during his initial illness phase, officials are enforcing strict quarantine protocols for all individuals exposed during those dates. State Health Minister K. Muraleedharan urged the public to maintain high vigilance without panicking while a high-level emergency meeting was convened to compile a comprehensive route map of the patient's recent movements.
