Uzbekistan initially claimed an early advantage in the tenth minute when their talismanic captain Eldor Shomurodov clinically breached the Congolese defense. Refusing to back down after trailing in the first half, DR Congo initiated a relentless offensive strategy that completely shifted the momentum of the match. Star forward Yoane Wissa successfully triggered the comeback by confidently converting a crucial penalty kick in the sixty-eighth minute to level the scoreline. The African side took a definitive lead just ten minutes later when super-substitute Fiston Mayele found the back of the net with a brilliant strike. Wissa then completed his spectacular brace during injury time, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack to unleash a beautiful turning shot into the top corner, sealing DR Congo's historic passage into the Round of 32 with four points.
