ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റിന്റെ ഒരൊയൊരു ദാദയ്ക്ക് ഇന്ന് 53 ആം പിറന്നാൾ. കളിക്കളത്തിലെ ഗാംഗുലി കാലം, പടുകുഴിയിൽ വീണ് കിടന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റിന്റെ ഉയർത്തെഴുന്നേൽപ്പിന്‍റെ കാലം കൂടിയായിരുന്നു. എതിരാളിയെ വിറപ്പിക്കുന്ന ശൗര്യം കൂടിയ ബംഗാൾ കടുവ. അതായിരുന്നു സൗരവ് ഗാംഗുലി. 96 ൽ ലോഡ്സിൽ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് വേണ്ടി മൂന്നാം നമ്പറിൽ  കളിക്കാനിറങ്ങിയ 24കാരൻ. തന്റെ ആദ്യ ടെസ്റ്റിൽ  സെഞ്ചുറി നേടി ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിനെ തുണ്ടമാക്കി. ക്രിക്കറ്റിന്റെ മെക്കയിൽ ജഴ്സി ഊരി വിക്ടറി സെലിബ്രേഷൻ.

 അതുവരെ ആരും ഗൌനിക്കാതെ പോയ  പയ്യൻ പിന്നെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഏക്കാലത്തെയും മികച്ച നായകരിലൊരാളായി. ബംഗാളിൽ നിന്ന് വന്ന ചൂടൻ ചെക്കൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റിന്റെ തലപ്പത്തെത്തിയപ്പോൾ  ചരിത്രം പിറന്നു. ഇന്ത്യൻ ടീമിനെ എന്തിനും പോന്ന പതിനൊന്നുപേരുടെ കൂട്ടമാക്കി മാറ്റി. ഇതിഹാസ ജയങ്ങൾ പൊരുതി നേടി.
