വയനാട്ടില്‍ കാപ്പി കര്‍ഷകരെയും വെറുതെ വിടാതെ കാട്ടാനകള്‍. പനമരം നീര്‍വാരം മേഖലയില്‍ വീട്ടില്‍ ഉണക്കാനിട്ട ഒന്നര ക്വിന്‍റല്‍ കാപ്പിക്കുരു കാട്ടാനകള്‍ ഇറങ്ങി തിന്നും ചവിട്ടിയും നശിപ്പിച്ചു. വനാതിര്‍ത്തിയിലെ വൈദ്യുതി വേലി തകര്‍ത്താണ് ആനകളുടെ  വിളയാട്ടം.

കാട്ടാനകള്‍ വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്ത് എത്തി, ഉണക്കാനിട്ട നെല്ല് തിന്നാറുണ്ടെങ്കിലും കാപ്പിക്കുരു ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത് ഇതാദ്യമാണ്. പാതിരി സൗത്ത് വനാതിര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ നിന്നും പുലര്‍ച്ചെയാണ് ആനകള്‍ ഇറങ്ങുന്നത്. ബോബി നിലയം പങ്കജാക്ഷി, ബബീഷ് എന്നിവരുടെ വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്തെ കളത്തില്‍ ഉണങ്ങാനിട്ടതും കൂട്ടിയിട്ടതുമായ കാപ്പിക്കുരു ആനകള്‍ നശിപ്പിച്ചു. മൂടിവച്ച ഷീറ്റുകള്‍ പൊളിച്ചാണ് കാപ്പിക്കുരു ടേസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. രാത്രി തീകൂട്ടി കാവല്‍ ഇരിക്കുകയാണ് വീട്ടുകാര്‍.

പ്രദേശത്തെ വാഴയും തെങ്ങുമെല്ലാം ആനകള്‍ കുത്തി നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് പതിവായി. വനാതിര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ നിലവിലുള്ള കിടങ്ങ് മറികടന്നും വൈദ്യുതി വേലി തകര്‍ത്തുമാണ് ആനകളുടെ വരവ്. ക്രാഷ് ഗാര്‍ഡ് വേലിയുടെ നിര്‍മാണം എങ്ങും എത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. വ്യാപകമായ കൃഷിനാശം ഉണ്ടാകുമ്പോളും വനം വകുപ്പിന്‍റെ ഇടപെടല്‍ ദുര്‍ബലമാണെന്നാണ് ആക്ഷേപം.

In a rare incident, wild elephants destroyed over one and a half quintals of coffee beans in the Panamaram Neervaram area of Wayanad. The elephants entered the courtyards of local residents and consumed the coffee beans that were laid out for drying. Farmers are shocked as this is the first time elephants have targeted coffee beans instead of traditional crops like paddy. Despite lighting fires at night to guard their property, residents remain in fear as the animals breach electric fences with ease. The delay in completing the crash guard fence construction has exacerbated the situation for the local farming community. People are now demanding immediate and effective intervention from the Forest Department to protect their lives and livelihoods.
