മുഖം മിനുക്കിയതാണെങ്കിലും കോട്ടയം ഗവൺമെന്‍റ് മെഡിക്കൽ കോളജിലെ കൂടുതൽ കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ അനാരോഗ്യത്തിന്‍റെ പിടിയിലാണ്. മഴക്കാലത്ത് ചോർച്ചയുള്ളതാണ് പിജി വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ ഹോസ്റ്റൽ. കാടുകയറിക്കിടക്കുകയാണ് ക്വാർട്ടേഴ്സുകൾ. 

പൊട്ടിപ്പൊളിഞ്ഞ ഹോസ്റ്റലിൽ താമസിക്കുന്ന എംബിബിഎസ് വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ പരാതികൾ പുറത്തുവന്നത് പിന്നാലെയാണ് പിജി വിദ്യാർഥികളും ഹോസ്റ്റലിന്‍റെ കുഴപ്പങ്ങൾ പങ്കുവെച്ചത്. കാലപ്പഴക്കം മൂലം പലയിടത്തും കോൺക്രീറ്റ് സിമന്‍റ് പാളികൾ ഇളകിയ നിലയിലാണ്. ശുചിമുറികളുടെ ചോർച്ചയും സ്ഥല സൗകര്യമില്ലായ്മയും ദുരിതം ഇരട്ടിയാക്കുന്നു. 

പഴയ കെട്ടിടത്തിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗം മുറികളിലും രണ്ടുപേർ വീതമാണ് താമസം. ലക്ഷങ്ങൾ ചെലവഴിച്ച് നിർമിച്ച കെട്ടിടങ്ങളാണ് കാടുകയറി നശിക്കുന്നത്. അറ്റകുറ്റപ്പണി നടത്താതെ വൻമരങ്ങളുടെ വേരുകൾ ആഴ്ന്നിങ്ങി നിരവധി ക്വാർട്ടേഴു കളാണ് ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നത്. ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾ അനുവദിക്കണമെന്നാണ് വിദ്യാർഥികളുടെ ആവശ്യം. 

ENGLISH SUMMARY:

Despite cosmetic renovations, several buildings at Kottayam Government Medical College remain in a state of disrepair. Leaking roofs plague the PG students’ hostel during monsoons, and staff quarters are overrun with vegetation. Following complaints from MBBS students about hostel conditions, PG students also revealed issues like crumbling concrete, leaking bathrooms, and overcrowding. Most rooms in the old building house two students each. Many quarters, though recently constructed at high cost, are deteriorating without maintenance. Students are demanding access to safe and usable buildings.
