ഈ വർഷത്തെ ജോൺ മാഡോക്സ് പുരസ്കാരത്തിന്‍റെ സാധ്യതാ പട്ടികയിൽ ഡോ. സിറിയക് അബി ഫിലിപ്സ്  ഇടംനേടി. ആലുവ രാജഗിരി ആശുപത്രിയിലെ കരൾരോഗ വിഭാഗം സീനിയർ കൺസൾട്ടന്‍റും ക്ലിനിക്കൽ സയന്റിസ്റ്റുമാണ്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ സത്യങ്ങൾക്കും തെളിവുകൾക്കും വേണ്ടി നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന ഗവേഷകർക്ക് നൽകുന്ന അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പുരസ്കാരമാണിത്.  ഇന്ത്യൻ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലെ ഒരു ഡോക്ടർ പട്ടികയിൽ ഇടം നേടുന്നത് ഇതാദ്യമായാണ്. 

ബ്രിട്ടണിലെ 'സെൻസ് എബൗട്ട് സയൻസും', റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റിയും സംയുക്തമായാണ്  ജോൺ മാഡോക്സ് പുരസ്കാരം നൽകുന്നത്. ശാസ്ത്രീയ തെളിവുകൾക്കും ശാസ്ത്ര പ്രചാരണത്തിനും വേണ്ടി ധീരമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന വ്യക്തികൾക്ക് 2012 മുതൽ നൽകി വരുന്നതാണ് ജോൺ മാഡോക്സ് പുരസ്കാരം.

വിജയികളെ  ഒക്ടോബർ 29-ന് പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കും.  ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള നാമനിർദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട എട്ട് പേരുടെ സാധ്യത പട്ടികയിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹമുള്ളത്. പ്രശസ്ത ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനും 'നേച്ചർ' മാഗസിന്റെ എഡിറ്ററുമായിരുന്ന സർ ജോൺ മാഡോക്സിന്റെ സ്മരണാർഥമാണ് പുരസ്കാരം നൽകുന്നത്.

Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a senior consultant in the liver disease department and clinical scientist at Rajagiri Hospital in Aluva, Kerala, has been shortlisted for this year's John Maddox Prize. The international award recognises individuals who demonstrate courage in defending scientific evidence and promoting science, even in the face of adversity. Presented jointly by the UK-based organisation Sense About Science and the Royal Society, the prize has been awarded since 2012. Dr. Philips is reportedly the first doctor from the Indian subcontinent to feature on the shortlist, which includes eight candidates selected from nominations worldwide, with the winners set to be announced on October 29.
