നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് ബേപ്പൂരില് സ്ഥാനാര്ഥിത്വം പിഴച്ചുവെന്ന് കോഴിക്കോട് ഡിസിസി പ്രസിഡന്റ് കെ.പ്രവീണ്കുമാര്. കോണി ചിഹ്നത്തിലോ കൈപ്പത്തി ചിഹ്നത്തിലോ മല്സരിക്കേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെയെങ്കില് ജില്ലയിലെ മുഴുവന് സീറ്റുകളിലും ജയിക്കുമായിരുന്നുവെന്നും ആ സത്യം ഇപ്പോഴാണ് തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നതെന്നും പ്രവീണ്കുമാര് മനോരമ ന്യൂസിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു.
ബേപ്പൂരില് യുഡിഎഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്ഥിയായി മല്സരിച്ച പി.വി.അന്വര് 7487 വോട്ടുകള്ക്ക് മുന്മന്ത്രിയും എല്ഡിഎഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്ഥിയുമായ പി.എ. മുഹമ്മദ് റിയാസിനോട് പരാജയപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു. വിജയിക്കുന്ന സീറ്റ് തനിക്ക് തരാന് യുഡിഎഫ് ഒരുക്കമായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും റിയാസിനെതിരെ തന്നെ മല്സരിക്കാന് താന് തീരുമാനിക്കുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും പരാജയപ്പെട്ടുവെങ്കിലും സന്തുഷ്ടനാണെന്നും അന്വര് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് തോല്വിക്ക് പിന്നാലെ പ്രതികരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

Kozhikode DCC President K. Praveen Kumar stated that fielding P.V. Anvar as a candidate in Beypore during the assembly elections was a strategic mistake. He remarked that had Anvar contested under the traditional 'Ladder' (Koni) or 'Hand' (Kaipathi) symbol instead, the UDF could have secured all the seats in the district. Anvar had previously lost the Beypore seat to LDF candidate and former minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas by a margin of 7,487 votes. Despite the defeat, Anvar had expressed satisfaction with his choice to run specifically against Riyas after the election results were announced.
