പതിനാറാം കേരള നിയമസഭയുടെ സ്പീക്കറായി തിരുവഞ്ചൂര് രാധാകൃഷ്ണന് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ബാലറ്റ് പേപ്പറിലൂടെ നടന്ന തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് 101 വോട്ടുകളാണ് തിരുവഞ്ചൂര് നേടിയത്. എല്ഡിഎഫ് സ്ഥാനാര്ഥി എ.സി.മൊയ്തീന് 35 വോട്ടും എന്ഡിഎയുടെ ബി.ബി.ഗോപകുമാര് മൂന്ന് വോട്ടും നേടി. തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട സ്പീക്കറെ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവും ചേര്ന്ന് ഇരിപ്പിടത്തിലേക്ക് ആനയിച്ചു.
അര്പ്പണബോധത്തോടെ പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നയാളാണ് തിരുവഞ്ചൂരെന്ന് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി വി.ഡി.സതീശന് അനുമോദിച്ച് സംസാരിച്ചു. പ്രതിപക്ഷ ശബ്ദവും അംഗീകരിക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നുവെന്നും ഉന്നത ജനാധിപത്യബോധം തിരുവഞ്ചൂര് പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുമെന്ന് ഉറപ്പുണ്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവ് പിണറായി വിജയന്റെ അഭിനന്ദനം.
സ്പീക്കറാകുന്നതിന്റെ ത്രില്ലിലാണെന്നായിരുന്നു തിരുവഞ്ചൂര് നേരത്തെ മനോരമന്യൂസിനോട് പറഞ്ഞത്. സഭയില് താന് നിഷ്പക്ഷനായിരിക്കുമെന്നും അരാഷ്ട്രീയവാദിയാകില്ലെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വ്യക്തമാക്കി. മന്ത്രിസ്ഥാനവും സ്പീക്കര് സ്ഥാനവുമായി താരതമ്യമില്ലെന്നും നാക്കുപിഴ വരാത്തവര് ആരുണ്ടെന്നും പരിഹാസങ്ങള്ക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം മറുപടിയും നല്കി.
