മെസിയെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന പദ്ധതി സര്‍ക്കാറിന്റേതാണെന്നാണ് ആന്റോ ജിഎസ്ടി വകുപ്പിന് നല്‍കിയ മൊഴിയില്‍ പറയുന്നത്. സ്പോണ്‍സര്‍ മാത്രമായ തനിക്ക് മെസ്സിയെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതില്‍ നേരിട്ട് പങ്കില്ലെന്നും ആന്റോ പറയുന്നു. 126കോടി രൂപ വിദേശകമ്പനിക്ക് നല്‍കിയത് ഒരു മൂലധനച്ചിലവ് മാത്രമായാണെന്നും മെസ്സി വന്നാലും ഇല്ലെങ്കിലും നികുതി നല്‍കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരുന്നില്ലെന്നും ആന്റോ പറയുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ ആന്റോയുടെ വാദം നിയമപരമായി ശരിയല്ലെന്ന് ജിഎസ്ടി ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. സ്പോണ്‍സറാണെങ്കിലും നികുതി അടയ്ക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ടെന്നും ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര്‍ പറയുന്നു. 

അതേസമയം മെസ്സി കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് വരാത്തതിനാല്‍ ആന്റോ നികുതി അടയ്ക്കേണ്ടതില്ലെന്നാണ് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം ഇടതുനേതാക്കളടക്കം പറഞ്ഞത്. ആന്റോയുടേത് ബോധപൂര്‍വമായ നിലപാട് തന്നെയാണ് എന്നാണ് ഈ മൊഴിയിലൂടെ വ്യക്തമാകുന്നത്.

Augustine categorized the ₹126 crore sent to an overseas firm as a capital expenditure and insisted no tax was due regardless of whether the event materialized. However, GST officials rejected his defense, declaring it legally invalid and affirming that tax obligations apply to financial transfers regardless of whether the event took place
