എ.പത്മകുമാറിനെതിരെ നടപടിക്ക് സിപിഎം; ചുമതല പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലാ കമ്മിറ്റിക്ക്

The CPI(M) state leadership has officially directed the Pathanamthitta District Committee to initiate formal disciplinary action against senior leader A. Padmakumar for his alleged involvement in the sensational Sabarimala gold theft case. Prior to this directive, the party center had merely given an informal instruction to keep the veteran politician away from major public functions and organizational campaigns. The state committee intervened decisively after grassroot party cadres expressed extreme resentment over Padmakumar being permitted to renew his active party membership just last week. The former Konni MLA and ex-Travancore Devaswom Board President was initially arrested on November 20 last year for his alleged role in the illegal siphoning of gold from the sanctum sanctorum’s doorframe. Crime Branch investigators subsequently recorded his second arrest on December 2 in a related case involving the theft of gold plating from the 'Dwarapalaka' idols. After spending nearly three and a half months in judicial custody, Padmakumar, who is currently out on bail, stands accused of criminally conspiring with the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Poti, to facilitate the massive temple robbery.
