Abdul Raheem, a Malayali man imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, will have to serve one more year in jail, completing a 20-year term after his death sentence was commuted. Raheem has already served 19 years, and his release is expected in December 2026. The death sentence was reduced after a diya (blood money) payment of ₹34 crore was made. He was originally sentenced for his alleged involvement in the death of his sponsor’s son. The support committee assisting Raheem stated that further steps will be considered after receiving the official verdict document.
