പ്രശസ്ത തമിഴ് ചലച്ചിത്ര സംവിധായകനും നടനുമായ ഭാരതിരാജ (84) അന്തരിച്ചു. വാർദ്ധക്യസഹജമായ അസുഖങ്ങളെ തുടർന്ന് ചെന്നൈയിലെ വസതിയിലായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം. തമിഴ് സിനിമയില്‍ കാതലായ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തുകയും തമിഴ് സിനിമയുടെ പ്രശസ്‌തി ലോകമെങ്ങും വ്യാപിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത ഏറ്റവും സ്വാധീനമുള്ള ചലച്ചിത്രകാരന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളാണ് ഭാരതിരാജ. ഗ്രാമീണ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലുള്ള കഥകളും റിയലിസ്റ്റിക് മേക്കിങുമാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ സിനിമയെ എന്നും വേറിട്ട് നിര്‍ത്തിയിരുന്നത്.

ശിവാജി ഗണേശൻ, രജനീകാന്ത്, കമൽ ഹാസൻ തുടങ്ങി തമിഴകത്തെ മുൻനിര നായകൻമാരെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളാക്കി നിരവധി ക്ലാസിക് ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ് അദ്ദേഹം സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തത്. 1977 ലെ 16 വയതിനിലേ ആണ് ആദ്യ ചിത്രം. കിഴക്കേ പോകും റെയിൽ (1978), സിഗപ്പ് റോജാക്കൾ (1978), നിഴൽഗൾ (1980), അലൈകൾ ഓയ്വതില്ലൈ (1981), ടിക് ടിക് ടിക് (1981), ഒരു കൈതിയിൻ ഡയറി (1985) മുതൽ മര്യാതൈ (1985) തുടങ്ങി നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങളാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റേതായുള്ളത്. 2020-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ 'മീണ്ടും ഒരു മര്യാതൈ' എന്ന ചിത്രമാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അവസാനമായി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തത്.

സംവിധാനത്തിന് പുറമെ മികച്ച അഭിനേതാവുനാണ് ഭാരതി രാജ. 'ആയുധ എഴുത്ത്', 'പാണ്ഡ്യനാട്', 'ഈശ്വരൻ', 'തിരുച്ചിത്രമ്പലം', 'മഹാരാജ' തുടങ്ങിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രകടനങ്ങൾ ഏറെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. തരുൺ മൂർത്തി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത് മോഹൻലാലും ശോഭനയും പ്രധാന വേഷങ്ങളിലെത്തിയ 'തുടരും' (2025) എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം അവസാനമായി സ്ക്രീനിലെത്തിയത്.

2004 ൽ രാജ്യം പത്മശ്രീ പരസ്കാരം നൽകി ആദരിച്ച ഭാരതിരാജ 2013 ലെ കേരള സംസ്ഥാന ചലച്ചിത്ര അവാർഡ് നിർണയ ജൂറി ചെയർമാനായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ വിയോഗത്തോടെ ഇന്ത്യൻ സിനിമയിലെ ഒരു സുവർണ്ണ അധ്യായത്തിനാണ് തിരശ്ശീല വീഴുന്നത്.
