ഇടുക്കി തൊമ്മൻകുത്ത് നാരങ്ങാനത്ത് ഭൂമി അളക്കാനുള്ള നടപടികൾ തുടങ്ങി റവന്യൂ വകുപ്പ്. വനഭൂമി കയ്യേറിയെന്ന് കാണിച്ച് 458 കുടുംബങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെ കാളിയാർ റേഞ്ച് ഓഫീസർ റിപ്പോർട്ട്‌ നൽകിയിരുന്നു. മേഖലയിലെ ജനങ്ങളെ കുടിയിറക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമമാണ് വനം വകുപ്പ് നടത്തുന്നതെന്നാണ്  സമരസമിതിയുടെ ആരോപണം. 

നാരങ്ങാനത്ത് സെന്റ് തോമസ് ഇടവക സ്ഥാപിച്ച കുരിശ് വനഭൂമിയിലാണെന്ന് കാട്ടി വനം വകുപ്പ് പൊളിച്ചു മാറ്റിയിരുന്നു. വനം വകുപ്പ് നടപടിക്കെതിരെ വ്യാപക പ്രതിഷേധമുയരുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് വനഭൂമി കയ്യേറിയെന്നാരോപിച്ച് വനം വകുപ്പ് തയ്യാറാക്കിയ പട്ടിക പുറത്തുവന്നത്. പട്ടയമുള്ളവരും പട്ടയത്തിന് അപേക്ഷ നൽകി കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവരുമാണ് വനംവകുപ്പിന്റെ പട്ടികയിലുള്ളത്. 

പ്രദേശത്തെ വനഭൂമിയും കൈവശാവകശ ഭൂമിയും വേർതിരിച്ച് 1968ൽ ജാണ്ടയിട്ടിരുന്നു. ജണ്ടക്ക് പുറത്ത് താമസിക്കുന്നവരെയും കയ്യേറ്റക്കാരായി ചിത്രീകരിക്കാനാണ് വനംവകുപ്പിന്റെ ശ്രമമെന്നാണ് ആരോപണം 

പ്രദേശത്തെ വനഭൂമി എത്രയും പെട്ടെന്ന് അളന്ന് തിട്ടപ്പെടുത്തണമെന്നാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് വനംവകുപ്പ് റവന്യൂ വകുപ്പിന് കത്ത് നൽകിയിരുന്നു. മൂന്ന് സർവേയർമാർ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന സംഘമാകും പ്രദേശത്ത് സർവ്വേ നടത്തുക.

The Revenue Department has started surveying land at Thommankuthu, Idukki, following a report from the Kaliyar Range Officer accusing 458 families of encroaching on forest land. Protesters allege that the Forest Department is attempting to evict residents. The conflict intensified after the Forest Department demolished a cross erected by the St. Thomas Parish, claiming it was on forest land. The list of "encroachers" includes both people with land titles and those awaiting them. The survey team, which includes three surveyors, will demarcate forest land and private land, a process last done in 1968. Protesters claim the Forest Department is trying to label even those living outside the previously marked boundary ('janda') as encroachers.
