ഒരുകാലത്ത് സർക്കാർ സ്കൂളുകളിലേക്കുള്ള യൂണിഫോം തുണിത്തരങ്ങൾ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ നെയ്ത് നൽകിയിരുന്ന കേന്ദ്രം ഇന്ന് നിലനിൽപ്പിനായുള്ള പോരാട്ടത്തിലാണ്. കോഴിക്കോട് കക്കോടിയിലെ കൈത്തറി നെയ്ത്തുകേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ മുപ്പതോളം വനിതാ തൊഴിലാളികളാണ് ചോർന്നൊലിക്കുന്ന കെട്ടിടത്തിൽ എട്ടുമാസമായി കൂലി കിട്ടാതെ ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

അറുപത് വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുള്ള കെട്ടിടം, ചോർന്നൊലിക്കുന്ന മേൽക്കൂര, തറയിലാകെ വെള്ളക്കെട്ട്... കക്കോടിയിലെ സ്റ്റാർ വീവേഴ്‌സ് കോ-ഓപ്പറേറ്റീവ് സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ കൈത്തറി നെയ്ത്തുകേന്ദ്രത്തിന്റെ ഇന്നത്തെ അവസ്ഥയാണിത്. സർക്കാർ സ്കുളുകളിലെ യൂണിഫോമിനുള്ള തുണിയാണ് ഇവിടെ നെയ്തെടുക്കുന്നത്. ജില്ല വ്യവസായ കേന്ദ്രത്തിന് കീഴിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ഇവിടെ  മുപ്പതോളം വനിതാ തൊഴിലാളികളുണ്ട്. പക്ഷെ എട്ടുമാസമായി ഇവര്‍ക്ക് കൂലി കിട്ടിയിട്ടില്ല.

ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഷെഡ് നവീകരിക്കണമെന്നാവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് പലതവണ ജില്ലാ വ്യവസായ കേന്ദ്രത്തെ സമീപിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഫണ്ട് ലഭ്യമല്ലെന്ന മറുപടിയാണ് ലഭിച്ചതെന്ന് സൊസൈറ്റി അധികൃതർ പറയുന്നു.  സ്കൂള്‍ യൂണിഫോം പദ്ധതിയിൽ മികച്ച പ്രവർത്തനത്തിനുള്ള  അംഗീകാരം നേടിയ നെയ്ത്തു കേന്ദ്രത്തിനാണ് ഈ ഗതി.

Once a major producer of government school uniform fabrics, the handloom weaving center in Kakkoji, Kozhikode, is now struggling for survival as thirty women workers endure eight months without wages inside a leaking building. The Star Weavers Co-operative Society center operates out of a 60-year-old structure with a leaking roof and waterlogged floors under the District Industries Centre. Although society officials have repeatedly approached authorities to renovate the shed, they received responses stating that funds are unavailable. Despite previously winning recognition for its exemplary performance in the school uniform project, the historic weaving center now faces severe neglect and financial distress.
