Poet and director Sreekumaran Thampi has come out in support of filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan amidst the controversy surrounding the cinema conclave. Thampi stated that Adoor's comment—that the government's 1.5 crore subsidy for filmmaking should go to deserving candidates—was not wrong. He also added that Adoor had not insulted Dalits or women in his statement.
