ദേവികുളം മുന്‍ എംഎല്‍എയും മുന്‍ സിപിഎം നേതാവുമായ എസ്.രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ ബി.ജെ.പിയില്‍. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ ബിജെപി ആസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തി അംഗത്വം സ്വീകരിച്ചു. തനിക്കൊപ്പം ആരേയും ബിജെപിയിലേക്ക് ക്ഷണിച്ചില്ലെന്നും ബിജെപി പ്രവേശനത്തിന് ഉപാധികളില്ലെന്നും രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ പ്രതികരിച്ചു. നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍‌ മല്‍സരിക്കാനില്ലെന്നും രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

വിശ്വസിച്ച പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തെ ചതിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ആരേയും അടര്‍ത്തിമാറ്റാനില്ല. പലതും സഹിച്ചു; ഉപദ്രവിക്കരുതെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. പൂര്‍ണമായി ബിജെപിയില്‍ എന്ന് ഇപ്പോള്‍ പറയില്ലെന്നും രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ പ്രതികരിച്ചു.

2006 മുതൽ 2021 വരെ തുടർച്ചയായി മൂന്നു തവണ സിപിഎം എംഎൽഎയായിരുന്നു രാജേന്ദ്രൻ. എന്നാല്‍ സിപിഎമ്മുമായി തെറ്റിയതിന് ശേഷം രാജേന്ദ്രനെ കൂടെക്കൂട്ടാൻ ബിജെപിയുടെ കേരള– തമിഴ്നാട് ഘടകങ്ങൾ രണ്ടു വർഷമായി ചർച്ചകൾ നടത്തിയിരുന്നു എന്ന് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കഴിഞ്ഞ തദ്ദേശ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ബിജെപി സ്ഥാനാർഥികൾക്കായി എസ്.രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ വോട്ടുതേടിയിറങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഇതിന് പിന്നാലെ അഭ്യൂഹങ്ങള്‍ ശക്തമാകുകയും ചെയ്തു.

കഴിഞ്ഞ നിയമസഭാ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ എൽഡിഎഫ് സ്ഥാനാർഥിയായിരുന്ന എ.രാജയെ തോൽപിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചെന്നാരോപിച്ചാണ് 15 വർഷം സിപിഎം എംഎൽഎയായിരുന്ന എസ്.രാജേന്ദ്രനെ പാർട്ടിയിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു വർഷത്തേക്ക് സസ്പെൻഡ് ചെയ്തത്. ഇതിന് പിന്നാലെ സിപിഎം ജില്ലാ നേതൃത്വം തന്നെ പുറത്താക്കാൻ പദ്ധതി ഒരുക്കിയെന്ന് രാജേന്ദ്രൻ രൂക്ഷവിമർശനം നടത്തി. സസ്പെൻഷൻ കാലാവധി അവസാനിച്ചിട്ടും തിരികെ പാർട്ടിയിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കാതിരുന്നതോടെ വിവാദം ആരംഭിച്ചു.

രാജേന്ദ്രനെ പാർട്ടിയിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തിക്കാൻ സിപിഎം സംസ്ഥാന നേതൃത്വം നേരിട്ടിറങ്ങിയിട്ടും കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നില്ല. അപ്പോഴെല്ലാം സിപിഎമ്മിലേക്ക് ഇല്ലെന്നായിരുന്നു രാജേന്ദ്രന്റെ തീരുമാനം. രാജേന്ദ്രനെ പാളയത്തിലെത്തിക്കാനുള്ള ബിജെപിയുടെ നീക്കത്തിന് തടയിടാൻ ജില്ലാ നേതൃത്വം ശ്രമിച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ സിപിഎമ്മിന്‍റെ എല്ലാ ശ്രമങ്ങളും വിഫലമാക്കിയാണ് രാജേന്ദ്രന്‍ ബിജെപിയില്‍ എത്തുന്നത്.

This defection marks one of the most high-profile exits from the CPM to the BJP in recent years, signaling a changing political tide in the high ranges. The BJP plans to utilize Rajendran's extensive experience to expand its base in central Travancore.
