The Kerala State Electricity Board has announced a hike in the fuel surcharge, delivering a New Year shock to electricity consumers. Monthly bill consumers will now pay a fuel surcharge of 8 paise per unit, up from 5 paise last month. However, bi-monthly bill consumers have received marginal relief, with the surcharge reduced to 7 paise per unit. KSEB cited an additional financial burden of ₹18.45 crore incurred in November as the reason for the revision. The surcharge has been introduced to recover the increased cost of power procurement. Consumers are advised to check their upcoming electricity bills for the revised charges.
