മധുരയില്‍ നിന്ന് ചെങ്കോട്ടയിലേക്ക് വന്ന സ്വകാര്യ ബസ് തെങ്കാശിയില്‍ നിന്നും കോവില്‍പട്ടിയിലേക്ക് പോയ ബസുമായി കൂട്ടിയിടിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ഇടിയുടെ ആഘാതത്തില്‍ രണ്ട് ബസുകളും പൂര്‍ണമായി തകര്‍ന്നു. ഓടിയെത്തി നാട്ടുകാരാണ് രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനം ഏകോപിപ്പിച്ചത്. ജെസിബിയടക്കം ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് ബസുകള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ വേര്‍പെടുത്തി ആളുകളെ പുറത്തെടുത്തത്.

സ്വകാര്യബസിന്‍റെ അമിത വേഗമാണ് അപകടത്തിന് കാരണമെന്നാണ് പ്രാഥമിക നിഗമനം. പ്രദേശത്തെ സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍ പൊലീസ് പരിശോധിക്കുകയാണ്. അപകടത്തില്‍ മരണസംഖ്യ ഉയര്‍ന്നേക്കാമെന്നും പൊലീസ് പറയുന്നു.
