വ്യാഴാഴ്ച രാവിലെ റിയാദ്, മദീന മേഖലകളിലാണ് പൈപ്പ്‌ലൈൻ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട് ഡ്രോൺ ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായത്. ഇത് വൻ തീപിടുത്തത്തിനും നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്കും കാരണമായതായി സൗദി സർക്കാർ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. സംഭവത്തിൽ നിരവധി പേർക്ക് പരുക്കേറ്റിട്ടുണ്ട്. യുഎസും ഇറാനും തമ്മിലുള്ള സംഘർഷങ്ങളുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ പേർഷ്യൻ ഗൾഫിൽ നിന്നുള്ള എണ്ണ കയറ്റുമതി ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ സൗദി ആശ്രയിച്ചിരുന്നത് ഈ പൈപ്പ്‌ലൈനെയാണ്. പ്രതിദിനം 7 ദശലക്ഷം ബാരൽ ശേഷിയുള്ള ഈ പൈപ്പ്‌ലൈൻ സൗദി അറേബ്യയ്ക്ക് കുറുകെ ചെങ്കടലിലെ കയറ്റുമതി ടെർമിനലുകളിലേക്കാണ് എത്തുന്നത്.

ആക്രമണത്തെ തുടർന്ന് പൈപ്പ്‌ലൈൻ സുരക്ഷിതമാക്കാനും നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങൾ വിലയിരുത്താനും അടിയന്തര സേനയെ വിന്യോഗിച്ചതായി സൗദി ഊർജ്ജ മന്ത്രാലയം അറിയിച്ചു. അതേസമയം, തങ്ങളുടെ അധീനതയിലുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ തടയാൻ ഇറാഖ് സർക്കാരിന് സമയം നൽകുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി സൗദി തൽക്കാലം തിരിച്ചടികളിൽ നിന്ന് വിട്ടുനിൽക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചതായി വിദേശകാര്യ മന്ത്രാലയം വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

മിഡിൽ ഈസ്റ്റില്‍ സംഘർഷങ്ങൾ രൂക്ഷമായതിനെ തുടർന്ന് ഈ ആഴ്ച എണ്ണവില മാസങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം ആദ്യമായി ബാരലിന് 100 ഡോളർ കടന്നു. എണ്ണവില 8 ശതമാനത്തിലധികമാണ് ഉയർന്നത്. കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഇറാൻ അനുകൂല തീവ്രവാദികൾ സൗദി അറേബ്യയ്‌ക്കെതിരായ ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ ശക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. യെമനിലെ ഹൂതി തീവ്രവാദികൾ ഊർജ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളെ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട് നടത്തിയ ആക്രമണങ്ങളിൽ 70-ലധികം ആളുകൾക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റതായി സൗദി സർക്കാർ അറിയിച്ചു. ചെങ്കടലിനെ ആഗോള വിപണികളുമായി ബന്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ബാബ് എൽ-മന്ദബ് കടലിടുക്കിലൂടെയുള്ള സൗദിയുടെ എണ്ണ കയറ്റുമതി തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനായി ഹൂതികൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ ജൂലൈയിൽ സമുദ്ര ഉപരോധം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചിരുന്നു.

Saudi Arabia’s major oil pipeline has come under a drone attack. The East–West Pipeline was targeted by drones launched from Iraq. Following the attack, the pipeline was temporarily shut down. Pipelines in the Riyadh and Medina regions suffered significant damage. Reports indicate that Iran-backed armed groups carried out the attack from Iraq. The shutdown of the pipeline is expected to affect global oil supplies. Iraq condemned the attack and closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran.
