2019-ൽ അഭിഭാഷകനായ ദിലീപ് കുമാറാണ് ഹലാസൂരു ഗേറ്റ് പൊലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ കേസിനാസ്പദമായ പരാതി നല്‍കുന്നത്. കർണാടക, തമിഴ്‌നാട്, തെലങ്കാന, ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശിലെ സെരിലിംഗംപള്ളി തുടങ്ങി വിവിധ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലായി പ്രകാശ് രാജിന് നാല് വോട്ടർ ഐഡികളുണ്ടെന്നാണ് പരാതിയിലെ പ്രധാന ആരോപണം. തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ വേളാച്ചേരിയിൽ മാത്രം രണ്ട് വോട്ടർ ഐഡികൾ ഉണ്ടെന്നും പരാതിക്കാരൻ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്നു.‌‌ പരാതി നൽകിയെങ്കിലും തുടക്കത്തിൽ പൊലീസ് നടപടിയൊന്നും സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. തുടർന്ന് പരാതിക്കാരന്‍ ബെംഗളൂരു സിറ്റി പൊലീസ് കമ്മീഷണറെയും കേന്ദ്ര തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷനെയും സമീപിച്ചു. അവിടെ നിന്നും അനുകൂല മറുപടി ലഭിക്കാത്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് കോടതിയെ സമീപിക്കുന്നത്.

കേസിൽ വിശദീകരണം തേടി 48-ാമത് എസിജെഎം കോടതി രണ്ട് തവണ പ്രകാശ് രാജിന് സമൻസ് അയച്ചിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഈ രണ്ട് തീയതികളിലും താരം കോടതിയിൽ ഹാജരാകുകയോ വിശദീകരണം നല്‍കുകയോ ചെയ്തിരുന്നില്ല. സമൻസുകൾ തുടർച്ചയായി അവഗണിച്ച പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണ് കോടതി നടനെതിരെ ജാമ്യമില്ലാ വാറന്റ് പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

ജനപ്രാതിനിധ്യ നിയമപ്രകാരം ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഒരു പൗരന് രാജ്യത്ത് ഒരിടത്ത് മാത്രമേ വോട്ടറായി രജിസ്റ്റർ ചെയ്യാൻ അനുവാദമുള്ളൂ. ഒന്നിലധികം തിരിച്ചറിയൽ കാർഡുകൾ കൈവശം വെക്കുന്നത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് ചട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ഗുരുതരമായ ലംഘനമാണ്.
