വേനൽകടുത്തതോടെ ഇടുക്കിയിൽ ഏലച്ചെടികൾ കരിഞ്ഞ് തുടങ്ങി. മുൻവർഷങ്ങളിൽ കൊടും വരൾച്ച മൂലം ഉണ്ടായ കൃഷിനാശവും സാമ്പത്തിക നഷ്ടവും ഇത്തവണയും ആവർത്തിക്കുമോയെന്ന ആശങ്കയിലാണ് കർഷകർ.
കഴിഞ്ഞ രണ്ട് വർഷമായി കൊടും വരൾച്ചയിൽ 113 കോടിയിലേറെ രൂപയുടെ നഷ്ടമാണ് ഏലം കർഷകർക്കുണ്ടായത്. ഇത്തവണ നേരെത്തെതന്നെ ചൂട് കനത്തതോടെ കർഷകർ പ്രതിരോധ മാർഗങ്ങൾ ഒരുക്കി തുടങ്ങി. മരത്തണൽ കുറവുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ പന്തൽ പോലെ വല വിരിച്ചാണ് ഏല ചെടികൾക്ക് സംരക്ഷണം ഒരുക്കുന്നത്.
ഒരേക്കർ സ്ഥലത്ത് തണൽ ഒരുക്കാൻ ഒന്നര ലക്ഷം രൂപ വരെയാണ് ചെലവ്. വലയ്ക്ക് വില കൂടിയതും മുൻവർഷങ്ങളിലെ കൃഷി നാശത്തിന് സർക്കാർ നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നൽകാത്തതും കടുത്ത പ്രതിസന്ധി ആവുകയാണ്. കൃഷിമന്ത്രി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ച നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം ഇനിയെങ്കിലും വിതരണം ചെയ്യണമെന്നാണ് കർഷകരുടെ ആവശ്യം.
