The former official breathed his last at a private hospital in Kochi, where he had been undergoing medical treatment for a prolonged illness over the past three months. His demise comes months after a significant legal development in his ongoing criminal trial regarding the gold misappropriation case. At the end of January, Murari Babu had successfully secured default bail from the court, allowing him to step out of judicial custody. He had been facing intense investigation by state enforcement authorities over allegations of multi-million dollar gold pilferage from the sacred hill shrine during his administrative tenure. Following his passing, hospital authorities are completing the necessary medical formalities before handing over his mortal remains to his family members.
