A major tragedy struck the West Asian energy sector as a massive explosion at the Barzan gas facility in Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City claimed the lives of thirteen workers, including a young Malayali. The deceased Indian national has been identified as thirty-year-old Arjun Kalariyullathil, a native of Purameri near Nadapuram in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. According to official diplomatic briefs, the fatal casualties include twelve Indian expatriates and one Pakistani national who were working on-site when the disaster unfolded.
