കഴിഞ്ഞ ജനുവരി 24-ന് പുലർച്ചെ മൂന്ന് മണിയോടെയായിരുന്നു ആക്രമണം. മേലഡൂർ സ്വദേശി വർഗ്ഗീസിനെ പ്രതി മാരകായുധം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് വെട്ടുകയായിരുന്നു. ഓടിരക്ഷപ്പെടാൻ ശ്രമിച്ച വർഗീസിനെ പിന്തുടർന്ന് വീണ്ടും വെട്ടി ഗുരുതരമായി പരേക്കേൽപ്പിച്ചു. സംഭവത്തിന് പിന്നാലെ വർഗ്ഗീസിന്റെ ഭാര്യ നൽകിയ പരാതിയിൽ പൊലീസ് അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചു. സിസിടിവി ദൃശ്യങ്ങളുടെ സഹായത്തോടെ പോലീസ് പ്രതിയെ പിടികൂടി. ആക്രമണത്തിന്റെ കാരണം അറിയാൻ പൊലീസ് വിശദമായി ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുകയാണ്.
